Bento2015#Apr24~Bento&Co Sandwich Bento 2015 Contest

Did you see the result from Bento&Co Sandwich Bento Contest at FB? My sandwich bento are among the 10 finalists! I was so excited to spot my sandwich at FB and couldn't believe it! This is my 3rd times to participate Bento&Co contest. Is a challenging and fun making whenever I decided to joined in the contest each year.

So this year theme is about creating sandwich. If you follow my blog, I hardly make sandwiches bento for my daughter lunch. Pretty hard to think or create and the rules that Bento&Co looking for.... really need to do some homework on it! So this round, I focus on the sandwich. I love my sandwiches with eggs fillings so I get the idea of creating "EGGS" sandwiches ^_^ Different kind of eggs such as hard boiled eggs, century eggs and quail eggs! Yums! I toasted whole wheat bread and trim for the perfect sizes. Here's my sandwich ingredients:
  •  6 pieces of whole wheat bread (toasted)
  • 1 hard boiled egg (large and I use kampung egg)
  • 1 century egg
  • 2 quail eggs (for extra touch to make chicks)
  • lettuce/tomatoes/cheese/mayonnaise
  • orange and grapes as well cut out tomato rose for decoration
Not forgetting create some cute chicks but I focus on the sandwiches for taking photos. Because that's the main contest. Well, to create yellow quail egg simply soak at turmeric water and remember to stir. As for the other two-tone quail egg, I soak half and leave some white part. The dark brown color, I mix water and some black food colouring but after soaking the color wasn't black =_="

Arrange neatly for each sandwiches into the Monbento box and filled up the rest of the side dishes. Next, is the photo takings! I took countless shots.... really a lot and only can pick ONE for the contest. Oh gosh.... how I wish can submit more than one with different angles... hahaha....

Thank you for reading my posts and if you like my sandwich bento or view more delicious sandwiches bento from other finalists. Just click HERE to vote. Only one vote for per person and will end on April 27th (Monday). Thank you so much for your support and appreciate bottom of my heart. Hugs!

Congratulation to all 10 finalist and click HERE to view two winners ^_^ Super amazing!

Bento#Nov21~Little Chicks Bento

I still have left over egg sheet so I thought of making design egg sheet. Just a simple design to make them into Little Chicks ^_^ Still can be improve as I only use one medium egg white for this design. Will try again for better result! So, today's lunch I cooked fried rice and cover with Little Chicks egg sheet.
Little Chicks Egg Sheet:
First I use egg shape cutter to cut out my left over egg sheet. I cut out 4 chicks to fit in well into my bento box. Next, take an egg & just want the eggwhite to make this design. Mixed the eggwhite with some cornstarch/water and strain to a new bowl. Take a non-stick pan, pour the eggwhite mixture then lay the cut out oval egg shape on top.  Let it rest and make sure turn off the heat as you don't want the eggwhites over cooked :p
Final touch is to add nori for cute different expression.
As for side dish I just add tamagoyaki, cherry tomato, ketchup (chick sauce container), fish cake, oranges, cucumber and apple as leaves.
Ta-da....simple lunch bento for today and I hope you will like it ^_^ Have a great day! Cheers!

I found this chicks look pretty easy but too bad I'm not sure how to make the orange part for the chick mouth due to lack of ingredients =_=" End up I just rolled with rice and nori then after cut out the makisushi, I add orange capsicum on top to replaced. Hehe....did I passed?? Well, this is my 1st attempt so I need to practice more to make it better :)
Here is the closer look of my humble Chicks Makisushi. All together in the bento box have four makisush. Below is the details:

Yellow rice: Rice mix with yellow furikake
White rice: Rice as cracked shell
Craked "w" : Inari with nori
Orange part : Orange capsicum use round cutter to cut

Spend too long for making the chicks!! The only side dishes  I can managed was just adding some strawberry, lettuce, quail eggs (soak with turmeric powder water), ketchup (chick sauce cup) and hawflakes. Well, I hope you will like my today's post "Chicks Makisushi" ^_^ Cheers!

Today's lunch bento cooked Nissin Japanese Ramen (Instant Noodle) ^_^ I want to made My Neighbor Totoro theme bento only but I don't have the time to decorate the hard boiled egg as Totoro so end up I decorate as CHICK =_=" Oh well, my star chick still looks cute right?
Turn the cocktail sausages into Totoro. Cheese, nori and toasted spaghetti for all the Totoro details. Broccoli at the bottom and decorate with leaf picks for Totoro head ^_^
Cut the hard boiled egg into half. I did used the star shape egg mould to shape and the yolk turn out pretty well that I wanted to made Totoro as well but....not enough time so I turn it into pretty chick! Punch out the nori using puncher except the eye lashes ^_^

Bento#May20A~Penguins & Chicks Kyaraben

Today I'm going to show you making cute bento snack when running out of lettuce or kids don't eat lettuce at all or perhaps want to make simple bento ^_^ As you can see, I made cute Penguins & Chicks in this bento box. Mostly using silicon food cups and barans.
A closer look of the kyaraben. To made the bread into balls, just trim away the bread corners/skin. Add your children favourite fillings and wrap it using cling wrap. The yellow bread was corn bread and the Penguins, I used wheat bread or if you have white bread would be better ^_^ To made it look like penguin, just scissor cut the nori for penguin head. I spread some honey and used the cling wrap to wrap again. Leave it for few second before removing the cling wrap. Next, arrange the silicon food cups and put the penguins/chicks inside the food cups. Punch the nori eyes and add kamaboko for mouth or you can use sausage/carrots etc. I secured the mouth with spaghetti strips (if your children too young to take away the spaghetti strips, just spread jam/mayo etc.)
Inside the chick container, I add some raisins. Some grapes and haw flakes.
I hope you will like this simple bento snack! Cheers!
